Ghana Global Health

In partnership with Child and Family Health International (CFHI), students can select a global health internship experience in Ghana. In the capital city of Accra, they will focus on Pediatrics, child Health and some aspect of maternal health (with other focus areas available upon request). Students join local medical professionals in the historic Children's Hospital to see how these professionals provide care in a resource-poor environment, overcome financial and structural challenges, and address the social determinants of health. In addition, students will have the unique opportunity to engage with medical professionals in the Emergency Room (ER), the Outpatient Department (OPD), and specialized clinics on Asthma, Sickle cell, Malnutrition, Neurodevelopment, Pediatric Surgery, and Wellness. They will also work with various departments such as the Malnutrition Rehabilitation Center, Childhood Physiotherapy, ENT, Child welfare, Immunization unit, and the Family Planning Center. By rotating at the various wards, they will learn about the healthcare, prevention, and management of various acute and chronic diseases unique to West Africa's context.
